Surah Fatir 35:40

ﱝ ﱞ ﱟ ﱠ ﱡ ﱢ ﱣ ﱤ ﱥ ﱦ ﱧ ﱨ ﱩ ﱪ ﱫ ﱬ ﱭ ﱮ ﱯ ﱰ ﱱ ﱲ ﱳ ﱴ ﱵ ﱶ ﱷ ﱸ ﱹ ﱺ ﱻ ﱼ ﱽ ﱾ

Say, "Have you considered your 'partners' whom you invoke besides Allah? Show me what they have created from the earth, or have they partnership [with Him] in the heavens? Or have We given them a book so they are [standing] on evidence therefrom? [No], rather, the wrongdoers do not promise each other except delusion."

"Say, 'Have you considered your partners...'"

{Show me} is a substitute for 'Have you considered' (ara'aytum), because the meaning is: "Have you considered? Inform me." It is as if He said:

Inform me about these partners, and by what right they deserve divinity and partnership. Show me which part of the earth they created independently, apart from Allah? Or do they have a partnership with Allah in the creation of the heavens? Or do they possess a book from Allah that speaks of them being His partners, such that they are upon proof and evidence from that book?

Alternatively, the pronoun in {We have given them} refers to the polytheists, as in His saying: {Or have We sent down to them an authority} (Ar-Rūm: 35). That is: "Or have We given them a book before it?"

Rather, some of them—the leaders—promise others—the followers—{nothing but delusion}, which is their saying: {These are our intercessors with Allah} (Yūnus: 18). It has also been recited as: (bayyināt) [clear proofs].

{Indeed, Allah holds the heavens and the earth, lest they cease. And if they should cease, no one could hold them [in place] after Him. Indeed, He is Forbearing, Forgiving.}
