Surah Yasin: 37 **"And a sign for them is the night..."**

"We strip (naslakhu) from it the day..."

  • To strip (salakha) the skin of a sheep: This is said when one peels it off and removes it. From this comes the "stripping" of a snake of its slough (khursha'iha).
  • The Metaphor: It is used metaphorically here for the removal of light and its uncovering from the place of the night and where its shadow is cast.

"...and behold, they are in darkness (muzlimun)."

  • Meaning: They have entered into the darkness. It is said: azlamna (we have entered the darkness), just as you say a'tamna (we have entered the darkness of night) and adjayna (we have entered the darkness of night).
