Surah Ya seen 36:37



ﲧ ﲨ ﲩ ﲪ ﲫ ﲬ ﲭ ﲮ ﲯ

And a sign for them is the night. We remove from it [the light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness.

"We strip (naslakhu) from it the day..."

To strip (salakha) the skin of a sheep: This is said when one peels it off and removes it. From this comes the "stripping" of a snake of its slough (khursha'iha).
The Metaphor: It is used metaphorically here for the removal of light and its uncovering from the place of the night and where its shadow is cast.

"...and behold, they are in darkness (muzlimun)."

Meaning: They have entered into the darkness. It is said: azlamna (we have entered the darkness), just as you say a'tamna (we have entered the darkness of night) and adjayna (we have entered the darkness of night).
