{ذريتهم} Their children, and those whose protection concerns them. It is said: The term *dhurriyah* (offspring) applies to women, because they are the fields for them. In the Hadith: "He forbade the killing of *dharari* (offspring)," meaning women.

{من مثله ما يركبون} Like it, they ride—meaning camels, which are the ships of the land. It is also said that {the laden ship} refers to the Ark of Noah. The meaning of God carrying their offspring in it is that He carried their ancient ancestors in it, while they and their descendants were in their loins. He mentioned their offspring rather than them because it is more profound in bestowing favor upon them, and more effective in evoking wonder at His power in carrying their successors until the Day of Resurrection in the Ark of Noah.

{من مثله ما يركبون} Like that ship, they ride other ships and boats.

{لا صريخ لهم} No helper, or no help. It is said: "The *sarikh* (helper) came to them."

{ولا هم ينقذون} They are not saved from death by drowning.

{إلا رحمة منا} Except for a mercy from Us, and to grant enjoyment of life.

{إلى حين} Until a term in which they will die, which is inevitable for them after being saved from death by drowning. How well the poet said: *I was not saved so that I might remain,* *But I was saved from one death to another.*

Al-Hasan (may God be pleased with him) read: {نغرقهم} (We drown them).

{وإذا قيل لهم اتقوا ما بين أيديكم وما خلفكم لعلكم ترحمون * وما تأتيهم من ءاية من ءايات ربهم إلا كانوا عنها معرضين}
