{ وَامْتَازُوا الْيَوْمَ أَيُّهَا الْمُجْرِمُونَ }

{ وَامْتَازُوا }: Separate yourselves and stand apart from the believers; be on a side by yourselves. This occurs when the believers are gathered and led toward Paradise.

Similar to this is the Almighty’s saying:

"On the Day the Hour is established, that Day they will be separated. As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, they will be in a garden, delighted. But as for those who disbelieved..." (Ar-Rum: 14-16).

It is said: Māzahu (he separated it), so it became inmāza (separated) and imtāza (separated).

  • Qatadah said: "Withdraw yourselves from all good."
  • Ad-Dahhak said: "For every disbeliever, there is a house in the Fire where he will dwell, neither seeing nor being seen."

The meaning is that some of them will be separated from others.

{ أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَا بَنِي آدَمَ أَن لَّا تَعْبُدُوا الشَّيْطَانَ ۖ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ * وَأَنْ اعْبُدُونِي ۚ هَٰذَا صِرَاطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ }
