Tafsir
Verse range: 37:114-122
{From the great distress} Meaning: from drowning, or from the authority of Pharaoh and his people and their oppression.
{And We saved them} The pronoun refers to both of them and their people, as stated in the verse: {And We saved them and their people}.
{The clear Book} Meaning: the one that is eloquent in its clarity, which is the Torah, as He said: {Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which is guidance and light} (Al-Ma'idah: 44).
Regarding those who permit the possibility that the Torah was [originally] in Arabic, they derive it from the phrase "rawā al-zand" (the striking of the fire-stick), making it a fawʿala form, with the tāʾ being a substitute for a wāw.
{The straight path} The path of the people of Islam, which is the path of those upon whom Allah has bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [His] anger or of those who are astray.
