Tafsir of As-Saffat 37:20-21

"And they will say, 'Woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense.'"

It is possible that the phrase "This is the Day of Recompense" up to the word "Gather" is speech from the disbelievers to one another, or it may be speech from the angels to them.

It is also possible that "And they will say, 'Woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense'" is the speech of the disbelievers, while "This is the Day of Judgment" is the speech of the angels in response to them.

• The Day of Recompense (Yawm al-Din): The day in which we are judged, meaning: we are recompensed for our deeds.
• The Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Fasl): The day of decree, and the separation between the parties of guidance and misguidance.

"Gather those who committed wrong, along with their counterparts, and what they used to worship besides Allah. Then guide them to the path of Hell. And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned. 'Why do you not help one another?' But they, that Day, are submissive."
