As-Saffat: 36–39

{A mad poet} They mean Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace.

{Nay, he has come with the truth} A refutation of the polytheists.

{And he confirmed the messengers} Similar to His saying: {Confirming what is before it} (Al-Baqarah: 97).

{And you will surely taste the painful punishment} It is recited as la-dhā’iqū al-‘adhāb (in the accusative case), assuming the presence of the nūn (as in the dual/plural construct), similar to His saying: {And not remembering God except a little} (An-Nisa: 142), assuming the tanwīn. It is also recited according to the original grammatical rule as la-dhā’iqūna al-‘adhāb.

{Except for what you used to do} Meaning: Except for the likes of what you did—a bad recompense for a bad deed.

{Except for the chosen servants of God. Those will have a known provision: fruits, and they will be honored, in gardens of bliss, on thrones facing one another. There will be circulated among them a cup from a flowing spring, white, delicious to the drinkers; no ghawl (headache/intoxication) is in it, nor will they be intoxicated by it. And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, as if they were hidden pearls.}
