"Indeed, this is the great attainment."

The believer says this to speak of God’s favor and to express joy in his state, within the hearing of his companion, so that it may be a rebuke to him that increases his torment, and so that God may recount it, serving as a grace and a deterrent for us.

It is possible that it is the speech of all of them. Likewise, his saying: "Indeed, this is the great attainment," means: this state in which we find ourselves.

It is also said: It is the speech of God—Exalted and Majestic is He—confirming their statement and verifying it.

It has been recited: "Indeed, this is the great provision," meaning that which they have been provided of felicity.

62–71

"Is that a better lodging or the tree of Zaqqum? Indeed, We have made it a trial for the wrongdoers. Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire. Its fruit is as if it were heads of the devils. And indeed, they will be eating from it and filling with it their bellies. Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. Indeed, they found their fathers astray, so they hasten in their footsteps."
