(53) This is what you are promised...

It is read: "You are promised" (tūʿadūn) with a tāʾ (second person) and "They are promised" (yūʿadūn) with a yāʾ (third person).

{For the Day of Reckoning} Meaning: for the sake of the Day of Reckoning. Just as you would say: "This is what you are storing up for the Day of Reckoning," meaning: for the day when every soul shall be recompensed for what it has done.

{This! And indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return: Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the resting place. This! So let them taste it—scalding water and purulence. And other [punishments] of its kind, [various] kinds. This is a company bursting in with you. "No welcome to them! Indeed, they will burn in the Fire." They will say, "Nay, [it is] you! No welcome to you! You brought this upon us, and wretched is the settlement." They will say, "Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us, increase for him double the punishment in the Fire."}
