Az-Zumar: (46) Say, "O Allah, Creator..."

Exegesis: The Prophet (ﷺ) was distressed by them and by the intensity of their stubbornness in disbelief and obstinacy. Therefore, it was said to him: Call upon Allah by His greatest names and say: "You alone are capable of judging between me and them, and there is no recourse against them except through You."

In this verse, there is a description of their state, an excuse provided for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), a consolation for him, and a threat against them.

It is narrated of Ar-Rabi‘ ibn Khuthaym—who was a man of few words—that when he was informed of the killing of Al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him), he was angered by his killer. People said, "Now he will speak!" Yet, he said nothing more than, "Ah! Have they truly done it?" and he recited this verse. It is also narrated that he added thereafter: "They have killed one whom the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to seat in his lap and place his mouth upon his mouth."

{If those who did wrong had all that is in the earth entirely, and the like of it with it, they would surely seek to ransom themselves with it from the evil of the punishment on the Day of Resurrection. And there will appear to them from Allah that which they had not been reckoning. And there will appear to them the evils of what they earned, and they will be enveloped by that which they used to ridicule.}
