And on the Day of Resurrection you will see those who lied about Allah [with] their faces blackened. Is there not in Hell a residence for the arrogant?

Az-Zumar: 60

{They lied about Allah} They described Him with that which is not permissible for Him—Exalted is He, and far above that. They attributed to Him offspring and partners, and said: "These are our intercessors." They said: {If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them}, and they said: {And Allah has commanded us to do it} (Al-A'raf: 28).

It is not far-fetched for those who consider Him foolish by attributing ugly deeds to Him, such as:

  • Permitting that He creates a creation without a purpose.
  • Inflicting pain without compensation.
  • Oppressing them by imposing burdens beyond their capacity.
  • Anthropomorphizing Him by claiming He is visible, observable, and perceivable by the senses.
  • Affirming for Him a hand, a foot, and a side, while hiding behind the excuse of "without asking how" (bi-la kayf).
  • Assigning Him equals by affirming other eternal beings alongside Him.

{Their faces will be blackened} This is a sentence in the position of a circumstantial qualifier (hal) if "you see" refers to visual sight, or a second object if it refers to the vision of the heart.

{And Allah will save those who feared Him by their attainment; no evil shall touch them, nor shall they grieve.}
