"And the Trumpet will be blown..."

Question: What is the grammatical position (iʿrāb) of the word ukhrā (another) in this verse?

Answer: It admits both the nominative (rafʿ) and the accusative (naṣb) cases.

• As for the nominative: It is based on the verse: "And when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast" (al-Ḥāqqah: 13).
• As for the accusative: It is based on the reading of those who read it as nafkhah wāḥidah (a single blast) (al-Ḥāqqah: 13). The meaning is: "The Trumpet will be blown a single blast, then it will be blown into another time." The first [blast] was omitted because the word ukhrā (another) indicates it, and because it is already known from its mention elsewhere.

"Standing, they will be looking" (qiyāman yanẓurūn): They will be turning their eyes in all directions, with the gaze of one who is stunned when a calamity suddenly befalls him. It is also said: they will be looking to see what will be done with them. It is also possible that "standing" (qiyām) refers to remaining still and frozen in one place due to their bewilderment.

"And the earth will shine with the light of its Lord, and the record will be placed, and the prophets and the witnesses will be brought, and it will be judged between them in truth, and they will not be wronged. And every soul will be paid in full for what it did, and He is most knowing of what they do."
