Tafsir
Verse range: 4:144
"O you who have believed..."
"And do not take the disbelievers as allies..." Do not imitate the hypocrites in their taking of the Jews and others among the enemies of Islam as allies.
"A clear authority..." A manifest proof. This means that taking the disbelievers as allies is a clear evidence of hypocrisy.
It is narrated from Sa‘sa‘ah ibn Suhan that he said to his nephew: "Be sincere to the believer, and be of good character toward the disbeliever and the wicked person, for the wicked person will be satisfied with your good character, and it is your duty to be sincere to the believer."
