An-Nisāʾ: 56
{We shall replace them with skins other than them}
Meaning: We shall substitute them for them.
If you ask: "How can we punish skins that did not disobey, in place of the skins that did?"
I say: The punishment is for the sentient whole—the one that disobeyed—not merely for the skin itself.
Al-Fuḍayl relates that [the fire] makes the cooked skin raw again. It is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "Their skins are replaced every day seven times." Al-Ḥasan says: "Seventy times; they are replaced with white skins like parchment."
{So that they may taste the punishment}
Meaning: So that the tasting of it may persist for them and never cease.
{Mighty}
Just as you say to a person of honor: "May Allah make you mighty (aʿazzaka Allāh)," meaning: May He perpetuate your might and increase it. It means: Nothing can prevent Him from what He intends for the criminals.
{Wise}
He does not punish except with justice, upon those who deserve it.
{And those who believe and do righteous deeds, We shall admit them into gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. They shall have therein purified spouses, and We shall admit them into a shaded shelter. Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due, and when you judge between people, that you judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing, Seeing.}
