Ghafir: 32

"And O my people, I fear for you the Day of Calling."

(The Calling): This refers to what Allah the Exalted narrated in Surah al-A'raf: "And the companions of Paradise will call out to the companions of the Fire" (7:44), and "And the companions of the Fire will call out to the companions of Paradise" (7:50). It is also possible that it refers to their crying out to one another with [calls of] woe and destruction.

It has been recited with a shaddah (i.e., al-tanaddi): meaning that they will flee from one another, as in His saying: "On the Day a man will flee from his brother" (80:34).

Al-Dahhak said: When they hear the roaring of the Fire, they will flee in terror. They will not reach any corner of the earth without finding angels standing in rows. While they are surging against one another, they will hear a caller: "Come to the reckoning."

"You will turn your backs in flight" (40:33): According to Qatada, this means turning away from the place of reckoning toward the Fire. According to Mujahid, it means fleeing from the Fire, yet unable to escape.

"And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allah send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allah leave astray he who is a transgressor and a skeptic."

"Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without an authority having come to them - great is hatred [of this] in the sight of Allah and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allah seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant."
