Tafsir
Verse range: 40:6
{Among the companions of the Fire} This is in the nominative case as a substitute (badal) for the implied subject in {And We made the people inherit}. The meaning is: Just as that necessity was binding, it became binding upon the disbelievers that they are among the companions of the Fire.
Its meaning is: Just as their destruction in this world by the eradicating punishment was necessary, so too is their destruction by the punishment of the Fire in the Hereafter necessary. Alternatively, it may be in the accusative case, assuming the omission of the preposition of causality (lam al-ta'lil) and the verb reaching its object directly.
{And those who disbelieved} These are the Quraysh. The meaning is: Just as the destruction of those [past] nations was necessary, so too is the destruction of these [people] necessary, because a single cause unites them: that they are among the companions of the Fire. It has also been recited as {Kalimat} (plural: words).
