Fussilat: (43) "What is said to you..."

"What is said to you" means: The disbelievers of your people say nothing to you except what the disbelievers of their own people said to the messengers before you, in terms of hurtful words and slanders against the revealed scriptures.

"Indeed, your Lord is full of forgiveness" and mercy for His prophets, "and full of punishment" for His enemies.

It is also possible that it means: God says nothing to you except what He said to the messengers before you. The "said" thing is His saying: "Indeed, your Lord is full of forgiveness and full of painful punishment." Therefore, it is right that those who obey Him should hope for Him, and those who disobey Him should fear Him. The purpose is to strike fear into the disobedient.

{ And if We had made it a non-Arabic Qur'an, they would have said, "Why are its verses not explained in detail? Is it a foreign [book] and an Arab [messenger]?" Say, "It is, for those who believe, a guidance and a cure." But as for those who do not believe, there is deafness in their ears, and it is blindness upon them. Those are being called from a distant place. }
