Al-Jathiyah: (11) This is guidance, and those...

{هذا} This is a reference to the Qur’an. This is indicated by His saying, Exalted is He: {and those who disbelieved in the verses of their Lord}, for the verses of their Lord are the Qur’an.

It means: This Qur’an is perfect in its guidance, just as you say, "Zayd is a man," intending that he is perfect in manliness.

{وأيما} And al-rijz (the punishment) is the most severe of torments. It has been recited both with the genitive (al-alim) and the nominative (al-alimu) cases.

(12-13) Allah is the one who subjected to you the sea so that ships might sail upon it by His command, and that you may seek of His bounty, and perhaps you will be grateful. And He has subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth – all from Him. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who give thought.
