Open in Qurani

Al-Ma'idah: 15–16

"O People of the Scripture" An address to the Jews and the Christians.

"Of what you used to conceal" Such as the description of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and the law of stoning (rajm).

"And He overlooks much" Of what you conceal, He does not disclose it if there is no religious interest requiring it, and if there is no benefit in it other than the necessity of a ruling and its description—which must be clarified—such as the law of stoning and matters involving the revival of a religious law or the eradication of an innovation.

Al-Hasan said: "And He overlooks much of you," meaning He does not punish you for it.

"There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book" He means the Qur'an, because it dispels the darkness of polytheism and doubt, and because it clarifies the truth that was hidden from the people, or because its miraculous nature is manifest.

"Whoever follows His pleasure" Whoever believes in it.

"The ways of peace" The paths of safety and salvation from the punishment of Allah, or the paths of Allah.
