Al-Ma'idah: 94
"O you who have believed..."
This was revealed in the year of al-Hudaybiyyah. God tested them with game [animals] while they were in the state of ihram. It became so abundant around them that it would enter their dwellings, allowing them to catch it with their hands or strike it with their spears.
"That God may make evident who fears Him unseen"
That He may distinguish those who fear God’s punishment while He is unseen—expecting the Hereafter—and thus refrain from hunting, from those who do not fear Him and proceed to hunt.
"And whoever transgresses after that"
Meaning: whoever hunts after this trial and warning, the punishment shall befall him.
If you ask: What is the meaning of the minimization and belittling in His saying: "with some of the game"?
I say: It was minimized and belittled so that it would be known that it is not one of the great trials that cause the feet of the steadfast to slip, such as the trial of sacrificing one’s life or wealth. Rather, it is similar to the trial with which the people of Ayla were tested regarding the fishing of the Sabbath. If they do not remain steadfast in this, then what would their state be in matters more severe than this?
Ibrahim read "yanaluhu" (it reaches him) with a ya.
