Qaf (44): The Day the Earth Splits Asunder...

[Linguistic Readings] It is recited as tashaqqaqu (تَشَقَّقُ), and tashaqqa (تَشَّقَّقُ) by assimilating the ta into the shin. It is also recited as tushaqqaqu (تُشَقَّقُ) in the passive voice, and taneshaqqu (تَنَشَّقُ).

[Grammatical Analysis]

  • {Sira‘an} (سِرَاعًا - swiftly): This is a state (hal) derived from the genitive noun (the earth).
  • {‘Alayna yasir} (عَلَيْنَا يَسِيرٌ - easy for Us): The fronting of the prepositional phrase (‘alayna) indicates exclusivity. It means: such a momentous affair is not easy for anyone except the One who is All-Powerful in His Essence, whom one matter does not distract from another, as the Exalted says: "Your creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul" (Luqman: 28).

{We are most knowing of what they say, and you are not over them a tyrant. So remind by the Qur’an whoever fears My threat.}
