Al-Kashshaf: Adh-Dhariyat (52)

{كذلك} The matter is such, meaning: like that. This is a reference to their rejection of the Messenger and their labeling him a sorcerer and a madman.

{ما أتى} He then explains what was summarized by saying "what came." It is not grammatically correct for the Kaf (in kadhālika) to be the object of atā (came), because the negative particle does not allow what follows it to govern what precedes it. If it were said, "He did not come" (lam ya'ti), it would be correct, meaning: "Like that coming, no messenger came to those before them except that they said..."

{أتواصوا به} The pronoun refers to the statement. It means: Did the ancients and the later ones bequeath this statement to one another, until they all said it in agreement?

{بل هم قوم طاغون} Meaning: They did not bequeath it to one another, for they did not meet in a single era. Rather, they were united by a single cause, which is tyranny (ṭughyān), and tyranny is what drove them to it.
