Tafsir of Ad-Dhariyat 51:56

"And I did not create the Jinn and Mankind except to worship [Me]."

Meaning: I did not create the Jinn and Mankind except for the sake of worship, and I did not desire from them all except it.

If you ask: If He were the One who desired worship from them, would they not all be worshippers?

I say: He only desired from them that they worship Him by choosing worship, not by being compelled toward it. This is because He created them with the capacity [to choose]. Some of them chose to abandon worship, even though He desired it [in the sense of a command]. Had He desired it by way of coercion and force, it would have been found in all of them.

"I do not want any provision from them, nor do I want them to feed Me. Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the Firm Possessor of Strength."
