Tafsir
Verse range: 51:59
"Dhanub" (ذنوب): A large bucket. This is a metaphor originating from water-drawers who divide water among themselves, so one has a dhanub and another has a dhanub. It is said:
We have a bucket, and you have a bucket, If you refuse, then the well is ours.
When ‘Amr ibn Sha’s said:
In every tribe, I have been struck by a blessing, So Sha’s deserves a bucket of your generosity.
The King replied: "Yes, and a bucket-full (adhnaba)."
The Meaning: Those who wronged the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) by denying him—the people of Mecca—shall have a portion of Allah’s punishment, just like the portion of their peers and counterparts from the [past] generations.
Qatadah said: A sijill (a large bucket) of Allah’s punishment, like the sijill of their counterparts.
"Of their day": The Day of Resurrection. It is also said: The day of Badr.
From the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "Whoever recites Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Allah will grant him ten good deeds for every wind that has blown and flowed in the world."
