Verse range: 52:25
{And they will approach one another, questioning} They will converse, and some will ask others about their states, their deeds, and what they did to deserve attaining what is with Allah.
{Apprehensive} Tender-hearted out of fear of Allah.
{And He protected us from the punishment of the Samum} The punishment of the Fire, its heat, and its scorching blast. Al-Samum is the hot wind that enters the pores; Hellfire is named as such because it possesses this quality.
{Indeed, we used to supplicate to Him before} Before meeting Allah Almighty and returning to Him—meaning, while in the worldly life—we used to worship Him and ask Him for protection.
{Indeed, it is He who is the Barr (Benign)} The Beneficent.
{The Rahim (Merciful)} The One of immense mercy, who rewards when worshipped and answers when supplicated. It is also recited as annahu (with a fatha), meaning: "because He is."
{So remind, for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman.}
