Tafsir
Verse range: 53:55
{فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ} Do you doubt? The address is to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), or to man in general. He has enumerated both blessings and punishments, calling them all ala’ (favors), because even in punishment there are deterrents and admonitions for those who take heed.
{هَٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِّنَ النُّذُرِ الْأُولَىٰ} This Quran is a warner from the previous warnings; meaning, a warning of the same kind as the warnings given to those before you. Or, this Messenger is a warner from among the first warners. He said al-ula (the first) based on the interpretation of the group (the prophets).
{أَزِفَتِ الْآزِفَةُ} The imminent event has drawn near, described by its proximity in His saying: "The Hour has approached" (Al-Qamar: 1).
{لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ} There is no soul that can reveal when it will occur, as in His saying: "None can reveal its time except Him" (Al-A'raf: 187). Or, there is no soul capable of removing it once it occurs except Allah, though He will not remove it. Or, there is no soul now capable of delaying it. It is also said that kashifah is a verbal noun meaning "the revealing," like al-'afiyah. Talha recited: "There is no revealer for it besides Allah, and it is an evil covering for the wrongdoers."
{أَفَمِنْ هَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ * وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ * وَأَنتُمْ سَامِدُونَ * فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا}
