Tafsir
Verse range: 53:59-62
{أفمن هذا الحديث تعجبون} Are you amazed by this discourse—meaning the Qur’an—in a state of denial?
{وتضحكون} And do you laugh in mockery?
{ولا تبكون} And do you not weep? Weeping and humility are your due obligation.
It is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) that he was never seen laughing after this [surah] was revealed. It is also recited as ta‘jabūna taḍḥakūna (without the wāw).
{وأنتم سامدون} Meaning: arrogant and puffed up with pride. It is also said: distracted and playing. Some have said to their slave girl, "Ismudī lana" (sing for us), meaning: sing for us.
{فاسجدوا لله واعبدوا} So prostrate before Allah and worship [Him alone], and do not worship [other] gods.
It is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "Whoever recites Surah An-Najm, Allah will grant him ten good deeds for every person who believed in Muhammad and [every person who] rejected him in Mecca."
