We will attend to you, O prominent beings.
Tafsir
Verse range: 55:31
It is a metaphor derived from a man’s statement to someone he is threatening: "I will empty myself for you" (sa-afrighu laka). He means: "I will divest myself of everything that distracts me from you, in order to focus on inflicting harm upon you, until I have no occupation other than that."
The intended meaning is: devoting oneself to causing them harm and taking vengeance upon them.
It is also possible that it means: "The world will come to an end and reach its final limit, and with that, the affairs of creation—which He referred to when He said, 'Every day He is in a state'—will cease. Nothing will remain except one affair: your recompense." Thus, this is described as "emptying" for them by way of analogy.
