{سنفرغ لكم}

It is a metaphor derived from a man’s statement to someone he is threatening: "I will empty myself for you" (sa-afrighu laka). He means: "I will divest myself of everything that distracts me from you, in order to focus on inflicting harm upon you, until I have no occupation other than that."

The intended meaning is: devoting oneself to causing them harm and taking vengeance upon them.

It is also possible that it means: "The world will come to an end and reach its final limit, and with that, the affairs of creation—which He referred to when He said, 'Every day He is in a state'—will cease. Nothing will remain except one affair: your recompense." Thus, this is described as "emptying" for them by way of analogy.

Readings:

  • (Sa-yufraghu lakum): "It will be emptied for you" (by God Almighty).
  • (Sa-afrighu lakum): "I will empty myself for you."
  • (Sa-nafrighu): "We will empty ourselves for you" (with the nun).
  • These are read with the ya or nun opened or kasra-voweled, and the ra opened.
  • (Sa-yufraghu): With the ya opened or damma-voweled, with the ra opened.
  • In MS2254, there is the reading of Ubayy: (Sa-nafrighu ilaykum), meaning: "We will direct ourselves toward you."

{الثقلان} (The Two Weights): They are mankind and the jinn. They are called this because they "weigh down" the earth.

{يا معشر الجن والإنس إن استطعتم أن تنفذوا من أقطار السماوات والأرض فانفذوا لا تنفذون إلا بسلطان * فبأي آلاء ربكما تكذبان * يرسل عليكما شواظ من نار ونحاس فلا تنتصران * فبأي آلاء ربكما تكذبان}
