Tafsir of Al-Hadeed 57:12

{On the day you see the believing men and believing women, their light proceeding before them and on their right.}

The phrase {On the day you see} is an adverbial modifier for the statement {and for him is a generous reward}, or it is in the accusative case due to an implied verb, "Remember," to emphasize the magnitude of that day.

He specified {before them and on their right} because the fortunate ones are given the records of their deeds from these two directions, just as the wretched are given theirs from their left and from behind their backs. Thus, the light in these two directions was made a badge and a sign for them, because they are the ones who were guided by their good deeds and succeeded through their bright records.

When they are led to Paradise and pass over the Sirat (bridge) moving quickly, that light moves alongside them and ahead of them. The angels who meet them say to them: {Good news for you today}. It is also recited: {That is the [great] success}.

{On the day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believed, "Wait for us that we may acquire some of your light." It will be said, "Go back behind you, and seek light." And a wall will be placed between them with a door, its interior containing mercy, but on the outside of it is punishment. [The hypocrites] will call to the believers, "Were we not with you?" They will say, "Yes, but you afflicted yourselves, and awaited [misfortune for us], and doubted, and wishful thinking deluded you until there came the command of Allah. And the Deceiver deceived you concerning Allah. So today no ransom will be taken from you or from those who disbelieved. Your refuge is the Fire; it is your protector, and wretched is the destination."}
