Surah Al-Hadeed 57:18



ﳎ ﳏ ﳐ ﳑ ﳒ ﳓ ﳔ ﳕ ﳖ ﳗ ﳘ ﳙ

Indeed, the men who practice charity and the women who practice charity and [they who] have loaned Allah a goodly loan - it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward.

Al-Hadid: (18) "Indeed, the men who give charity and the women who give charity..."

{The men who give charity (al-mussaddiqīn)}: Those who give alms (al-mutasaddiqīn). It is also recited according to the root form as {al-mussaddiqīn} (with a shadda on the sad), derived from sadaqa (to be truthful).

They are those who have been truthful to Allah and His Messenger, meaning the believers.

If you ask: Upon what is the phrase {and have loaned} conjoined? I say: It is conjoined to the meaning of the verb implied in al-mussaddiqīn. This is because the al (the definite article) functions as alladhīna (those who), and the active participle functions as a verb (asadaqū—they gave charity). It is as if it were said: "Indeed, those who have given charity and have loaned."

The good loan (al-qard al-hasan): That one gives charity from what is pure, with a willing soul and a sound intention, to those who are deserving of charity.

It is also recited as {yud'ifu} and {yudā'ifu}, with a kasra under the 'ayn, meaning: "Allah will multiply [it]."

{And those who have believed in Allah and His messengers—those are the truthful (al-siddīqūn) and the witnesses (al-shuhadā') before their Lord; for them is their reward and their light. But those who have disbelieved and denied Our signs—those are the companions of Hellfire.}
