Tafsir of Al-Hadeed 57:25

{We have certainly sent Our messengers} Meaning: the angels to the prophets.

{with clear proofs} Meaning: with arguments and miracles.

{and We sent down with them the Scripture} Meaning: the revelation.

{and the Balance} It is narrated that Gabriel (peace be upon him) descended with the balance, handed it to Noah, and said: "Command your people to weigh with it."

{and We sent down iron} It is said that Adam descended from Paradise with five things made of iron: the anvil, the tongs, the sledgehammer, the hammer, and the needle. It is also narrated that he had with him the spade and the shovel.

From the Prophet (peace be upon him): "God Almighty sent down four blessings from heaven to earth: He sent down iron, fire, water, and salt."

Regarding {and We sent down iron}, Al-Hasan said: "We created it," similar to the Almighty’s saying: {And He sent down for you of the grazing livestock eight mates} (Az-Zumar: 6). This is because His commands, decrees, and judgments descend from heaven.

{in which is great military might} Meaning: fighting with it.

{and benefits for the people} In their interests, livelihoods, and crafts; for there is no craft that does not use iron as a tool, or that is not performed by means of iron.

{and that God may make evident those who support Him and His messengers} By using swords, spears, and all other weaponry in struggling against the enemies of the religion.

{unseen} While He is unseen to them. Ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with them both) said: "They support Him while they do not see Him."

{Indeed, God is Powerful, Exalted in Might} He is self-sufficient in His power and might to destroy whomever He wills to destroy on their behalf. He only tasked them with Jihad so that they might benefit from it and attain reward by complying with the command regarding it.

{And We have already sent Noah and Abraham and placed in their descendants prophethood and scripture; and among them is he who is guided, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.}
