Al-Hadid: 26

{And the Book} meaning the revelation. Ibn Abbas said: It refers to writing with the pen; it is said: "He wrote a book (kitaban) and writing (kitabatan)."

{And among them} meaning among the descendants or among those to whom the messengers were sent—the mention of the sending and the messengers points to them. This is a detailed account of their state, meaning: among them are the guided and among them are the defiantly disobedient (fasiq), with the majority being the defiantly disobedient.

Al-Hadid: 27

{Then We sent Our messengers in their footsteps, and We followed them with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel, and placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy. But the monasticism they innovated—We did not prescribe it for them—except seeking the pleasure of Allah. But they did not observe it with due observance. So We gave those who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.}
