Tafsir of Al-Hashr 59:11

Surah Al-Hashr 59:11

ﱙ ﱚ ﱛ ﱜ ﱝ ﱞ ﱟ ﱠ ﱡ ﱢ ﱣ ﱤ ﱥ ﱦ ﱧ ﱨ ﱩ ﱪ ﱫ ﱬ ﱭ ﱮ ﱯ ﱰ ﱱ ﱲ ﱳ ﱴ ﱵ

Have you not considered those who practice hypocrisy, saying to their brothers who have disbelieved among the People of the Scripture, "If you are expelled, we will surely leave with you, and we will not obey, in regard to you, anyone - ever; and if you are fought, we will surely aid you." But Allah testifies that they are liars.

Al-Hashr: 11

{To their brethren} Those between whom and them exists the brotherhood of disbelief, and because they used to ally with them and fraternize with them, and were with them against the believers in secret.

{And we will not obey anyone regarding you} In fighting you, [meaning] anyone from the Messenger of Allah and the Muslims, if they were to pressure us [to do so]. Or [it means]: we will not obey anyone in abandoning you or breaking the promises of support we made to you.

{They are indeed liars} Meaning in their promises to the Jews. In this is evidence for the validity of Prophethood, for it is an informing of the unseen.

If you ask: How is it said {And if they were to help them} after informing [us] that they will not help them? I say: Its meaning is: "And if they were to help them" by way of hypothesis and supposition, like His saying—Exalted is He—: {If you associate [others with Allah], your deeds will surely become worthless} (Az-Zumar: 65). Just as He knows what will be, He knows what will not be, how it would be if it were. The meaning is: If the hypocrites were to help the Jews, the hypocrites would be defeated, and then they would not be helped after that. Meaning: Allah—Exalted is He—would destroy them, and their hypocrisy would not benefit them due to the manifestation of their disbelief. Or: The Jews would be defeated, and the help of the hypocrites would not benefit them.

Verses 13–17

{You are indeed more fearful in their breasts than Allah. That is because they are a people who do not understand. They will not fight you all together except within fortified villages or from behind walls. Their violence among themselves is severe. You think them united, while their hearts are divided. That is because they are a people who do not reason. [Their case is] like those before them, recently; they tasted the consequence of their affair, and they will have a painful punishment. [The example is] like that of Satan when he says to man, "Disbelieve." But when he disbelieves, he says, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I fear Allah, Lord of the worlds." So the outcome for both of them is that they will be in the Fire, abiding eternally therein. And that is the recompense of the wrongdoers.}
