Al-An'am: 104
{There has come to you enlightenment from your Lord}
This is spoken by the tongue of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), as evidenced by his saying: {And I am not a guardian over you}.
- "Enlightenment" (Baṣā'ir): This is the light of the heart by which one gains insight, just as "sight" (baṣar) is the light of the eye by which one sees. It means: There has come to you from the Revelation and the reminders of what is permissible regarding Allah and what is not, that which serves the hearts as eyes serve the body.
- {So whoever gains insight}
Whoever perceives the truth and believes, {then it is for his own soul} that he has gained insight, and it is his own soul that he has benefited.
- {And whoever is blind}
Whoever is blind to it, then it is against his own soul that he has been blinded, and it is his own soul that he has harmed by this blindness.
- {And I am not a guardian over you}
I do not preserve your deeds to recompense you for them. I am only a warner, and Allah is the Guardian over you.
{And thus do We diversify the verses so they may say, "You have studied," and so We may make it clear for a people who know.}
