Tafsir of Al-An'am 6:114

Surah Al-An'am 6:114

ﲀ ﲁ ﲂ ﲃ ﲄ ﲅ ﲆ ﲇ ﲈ ﲉ ﲊ ﲋ ﲌ ﲍ ﲎ ﲏ ﲐ ﲑ ﲒ ﲓ ﲔ ﲕ ﲖ ﲗ ﲘ

[Say], "Then is it other than Allah I should seek as judge while it is He who has revealed to you the Book explained in detail?" And those to whom We [previously] gave the Scripture know that it is sent down from your Lord in truth, so never be among the doubters.

Al-An'am: 114

{أفغير الله أبتغي حكما} Based on the intent of a command, meaning: Say, O Muhammad: "Shall I seek other than Allah as a judge to judge between me and you, and to distinguish the truthful among us from the falsifier?"

{وهو الذي أنزل إليكم الكتاب مفصلا} The miraculous [Book], in which the distinction between truth and falsehood is made clear, and which bears witness to my truthfulness and your fabrication.

Then, he reinforced the evidence that the Qur’an is the truth by the fact that the People of the Book know it is the truth, as it confirms what they possess and conforms to it.

{فلا تكونن من الممترين} This is by way of incitement and provocation, similar to His saying: {And do not be of the polytheists} (Al-An'am: 14). Or, it means: Do not be among those who doubt that the People of the Book know it was sent down with the truth, and let not the denial and disbelief of the majority of them cause you doubt.

It is also possible that {Do not be} is an address to everyone, meaning: when the proofs of its authenticity and truthfulness support one another, no one should doubt it.

It is also said: The address is to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), intended for his nation.
