Tafsir of Al-An'am 6:116

{And if you obey most of those upon the earth} Meaning: most of the people, they will lead you astray. This is because the majority, in most matters, follow their own desires.

{They follow nothing but assumption} That is, their assumption that their forefathers were upon the truth, so they imitate them.

{And they are not but falsifying} Meaning: they estimate that they are upon something [of substance], or they lie in claiming that God has forbidden such-and-such and permitted such-and-such.

{Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided. So eat of that upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned, if you are believers in His verses. And why should you not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned while He has explained in detail to you what He has forbidden you, excepting that to which you are compelled? And indeed do many lead [others] astray through their [own] desires without knowledge. Indeed, your Lord - He is most knowing of the transgressors.}
