Al-An'am: 13

{And to Him belongs whatever dwells in the night and the day}

This is a conjunction linked to the [previous] "to Him" (lahu).

{Whatever dwells} (ma sakana) is derived from al-sukna (dwelling/residing). Its usage with the preposition fi (in) is like His saying: {And you dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves}.

{And He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing}

He hears every audible thing and knows every knowable thing; thus, nothing contained within the two cycles [of time—night and day] is hidden from Him.

Al-An'am: 14–16

{Say: "Shall I take as a protector other than Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, while it is He who feeds and is not fed?" Say: "Indeed, I have been commanded to be the first of those who submit [to Allah] and [was told]: 'Do not ever be of the polytheists.'"

Say: "Indeed, I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."

He who is averted from it that Day—He [Allah] has certainly had mercy upon him. And that is the clear triumph.}
