Al-An'am: 140

"Those who have lost are those who..."

This was revealed regarding the tribes of Rabi'ah and Mudar, and the Arabs who used to bury their daughters alive out of fear of captivity and poverty.

"In foolishness, without knowledge" Due to the lightness of their intellects and their ignorance of the fact that Allah is the Provider for their children, not they themselves. It is also recited as qattalu (they killed) with the tashdid.

"What Allah has provided for them" Referring to the ba'irah (camels dedicated to idols), the sa'ibah (freed livestock), and others.

Al-An'am: 141

"And it is He who brought forth gardens, trellised and untrellised, and palm trees and crops of different food, and olives and pomegranates, similar and dissimilar. Eat of its fruit when it yields, and give its due on the day of its harvest, and do not be excessive. Indeed, He does not like the excessive."
