Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects - you, [O Muhammad], are not [associated] with them in anything. Their affair is only [left] to Allah; then He will inform them about what they used to do.

Open in Qurani

Al-An'am: 159

{Those who divided their religion} They differed regarding it, just as the Jews and Christians differed. In the Hadith: "The Jews split into seventy-one sects, all of which are in the Abyss except for one, which is the saved one. The Christians split into seventy-two sects, all of which are in the Abyss except for one. My nation will split into seventy-three sects, all of which are in the Abyss except for one."

It is also said: They divided their religion by believing in part of it and disbelieving in another part. It is also read as: faraqu dinahum (they abandoned their religion), meaning they left it.

{And became sects} Groups; every group follows an Imam of its own.

{You have no part in them} Meaning: You are not responsible for them or their division. It is also said: You have no part in their punishment. It is also said: This verse is abrogated by the Verse of the Sword.

{Whoever comes with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof, and whoever comes with an evil deed will not be recompensed except the like thereof; and they will not be wronged.}
