Tafsir of Al-An'am 6:2

"Then He decreed a term" The term of death.

"And a term specified with Him" The term of the Resurrection. It is also said: The first term is the period between one's creation and one's death, and the second is the period between death and the Resurrection, which is the Barzakh (the interval). It is also said: The first is sleep, and the second is death.

If you ask: When the subject is indefinite and its predicate is an adverbial phrase (ẓarf), it is mandatory to delay the subject. Why, then, was it permissible to advance it in His saying, "And a term specified with Him" (wa-ajalun musamman ‘indahu)?

I say: Because it was specified by the adjective (musamman), it became close to being definite, like His saying: "And a believing slave is better than an idolater" (Al-Baqarah: 221).

If you ask: The common usage in speech is to say, "With me is a good garment" (‘indī thawbun jayyid) and "I have a clever slave" (lī ‘abdun kayyis), and similar constructions. What necessitated the advancement [of the predicate here]?

I say: What necessitated it is that the meaning is: "And any term specified is with Him," to magnify the status of the Hour. Since this meaning is present in it, the advancement became necessary.

"And He is Allah in the heavens and on the earth. He knows your secret and your public, and He knows what you earn."
