Al-An'am: 29

"And they said, 'It is not but our worldly life...'"

{And they said}: This is a conjunction linked to [the previous verse] "they would have returned." That is: If they were returned [to the world], they would have disbelieved and said, {It is not but our worldly life}, just as they used to say before witnessing the Resurrection.

It is also permissible for it to be a conjunction linked to His saying: {And they are indeed liars}, meaning: They are a people who lie about everything, and they are the ones who said, "It is not but our worldly life." This [statement] is sufficient as proof of their lying.

Al-An'am: 30-31

{If you could but see when they are made to stand before their Lord! He will say, "Is this not the truth?" They will say, "Yes, by our Lord." He will say, "Then taste the punishment because you used to disbelieve."}

{Those who deny the meeting with Allah have lost, until when the Hour comes upon them suddenly, they will say, "Oh, our regret over what we neglected in it," while they bear their burdens on their backs. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear.}
