Tafsir of Al-An'am 6:63-64

{The darknesses of the land and the sea} This is a metaphor for their terrors and horrors. It is said of a severe day: "a dark day" or "a day with stars" (meaning its darkness is so intense it resembles the night). It may also refer to the perils they face—such as being swallowed by the earth on land or drowning at sea—due to their sins. When they call upon Him and supplicate, God removes the destruction and drowning, saving them from those darknesses.

{If You save us from this} This implies the unspoken words: "from this intense darkness."

{He saves you} (yunajjikum) It is recited both with the tashdid (doubling) and the takhfif (lightening). Similarly, "He saved us" (anjana) and "secretly" (khufyatan) are recited with both the damma and the kasra (vowel variations).

{Say: "He is the One capable of sending upon you a punishment from above you, or from beneath your feet, or to confuse you into sects and make you taste the violence of one another." See how We diversify the signs so that they may understand.}

{But your people have denied it, while it is the truth. Say: "I am not a guardian over you."}

{For every news is a fixed time, and you will come to know.}
