"And that you establish prayer..."
If you ask: Upon what is the phrase "And that you establish prayer" conjoined?
I say: It is conjoined to the position of "that we submit" (li-nuslima). It is as if it were said: "And we were commanded to submit, and that you establish prayer." It is also permissible that the estimation is "We were commanded for the sake of submitting and for the sake of establishing prayer," meaning: for Islam and for the establishment of prayer.
"His word is the Truth" (qawluhu al-haqq): This is a subject (mubtada'), and "on the day He says" (yawma yaqulu) is its predicate, placed before it. Its accusative case (nasb) is due to the implication of a verb, as when you say: "On Friday is the battle." "The Day" here means "the time."
The meaning is: He created the heavens and the earth, established in Truth and Wisdom. And at the time He says to any thing "Be," that thing becomes His word of Truth and Wisdom. That is, nothing among the heavens, the earth, or any other created things exists except through wisdom and correctness.
"On the day the Trumpet is blown" (yawma yunfakhu) is an adverbial phrase for His saying "And His is the dominion," similar to His saying: "To whom belongs the dominion this day?" (Ghafir: 16).
It is also permissible that "His word is the Truth" is the subject of the verb "to be" (yakunu), meaning: And when He says to His word of Truth—that is, to His true decree—"Be," then it becomes His word of Truth. The accusative case of "the Day" is due to an omitted verb indicated by His saying "in Truth," as if it were said: "And when He is and ordains, He stands in Truth."
"Knower of the Unseen" (‘alim al-ghayb): He is the Knower of the Unseen; its nominative case is for the purpose of praise.
"And [mention] when Abraham said to his father Azar, 'Do you take idols as deities? Indeed, I see you and your people in manifest error.' And thus did We show Abraham the realm of the heavens and the earth that he would be among the certain [in faith]. So when the night covered him [with darkness], he saw a star. He said, 'This is my lord.' But when it set, he said, 'I like not those that disappear.' And when he saw the moon rising, he said, 'This is my lord.' But when it set, he said, 'Unless my Lord guides me, I will surely be among the people gone astray.' And when he saw the sun rising, he said, 'This is my lord; this is greater.' But when it set, he said, 'O my people, indeed I am free from what you associate with Allah. Indeed, I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of those who associate others with Allah.'"
