Al-Mumtahanah: (13) O you who have believed...
It is narrated that some of the poor Muslims used to maintain ties with the Jews in order to obtain some of their fruits.
So it was said to them: {Do not take as allies a people} who are under the wrath of God, {who have despaired} of having any share in the Hereafter due to their stubbornness against the Messenger of God (may God bless him and grant him peace), even though they know he is the Messenger described in the Torah, {just as the disbelievers have despaired} of their dead being resurrected and returning to life.
It is also said: {of the inhabitants of the graves} is an explanation of the "disbelievers"—meaning: just as the disbelievers who have been buried have despaired of the good of the Hereafter, because they have realized the ugliness of their state and the evil of their final destination.
From the Messenger of God (may God bless him and grant him peace):
"Whoever recites Surah al-Mumtahanah, the believing men and believing women will be intercessors for him on the Day of Resurrection."
