Tafsir of Al-Mumtahanah 60:3

{لن تنفعكم أرحامكم} Meaning: Your kinship ties.

{ولا أولادكم} Meaning: Those for whose sake you befriend the disbelievers and seek to draw near to them, out of defense for them.

Then He said: {يوم القيامة يفصل بينكم} Meaning: Between you and your relatives and children. As in the verse: {On the Day when a man shall flee from his brother} (ʿAbasa: 34).

So why do you abandon the right of Allah out of consideration for the right of those who will flee from you tomorrow?

He has proven their opinion regarding befriending the disbelievers to be erroneous: first, by considering the state of those whom they befriended; and second, by considering the state of those who necessitated that friendship. This is to show them that whatever angle they view their actions from, they will find it to be void.

Recitations:

• Yufaṣṣalu and yufaṣṣilu: In the passive voice.
• Yufaṣṣilu and yufaṣṣalu: In the active voice, referring to Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He).
• Nufaṣṣilu and nufaṣṣalu: With the nūn (first-person plural).

{قد كانت لكم أسوة حسنة في إبراهيم والذين معه إذ قالوا لقومهم إنا برءآؤا منكم ومما تعبدون من دون الله كفرنا بكم وبدا بيننا وبينكم العداوة والبغضآء أبدا حتى تؤمنوا بالله وحده إلا قول إبراهيم لابيه لاستغفرن لك ومآ أملك لك من الله من شىء ربنا عليك توكلنا وإليك أنبنا وإليك المصير * ربنا لا تجعلنا فتنة للذين كفروا واغفر لنا ربنآ إنك أنت العزيز الحكيم}
