Verse range: 67:15
"Walking in its shoulders (manākibihā)": This is a metaphor for extreme submissiveness and exceeding the limit. This is because the shoulders—and the point where they meet at the withers—are the most delicate part of a camel, and the least likely place for a rider to step or lean his weight. Thus, if He has made the earth so submissive that one can walk upon its "shoulders," then nothing is left [to be subdued].
It is also said: "Its shoulders" refers to its mountains. Al-Zajjāj said: The meaning is that He has made it easy for you to travel through its mountains; and if it is possible for you to travel through its mountains, then that is the ultimate form of submissiveness.
It is also said: It means its sides. The meaning is: "And to Him is the resurrection," for He will question you regarding your gratitude for the blessings He has bestowed upon you.
{ Do you feel secure that He who is in the heaven will not cause the earth to swallow you when it shakes? Or do you feel secure that He who is in the heaven will not send against you a storm of stones? Then you will know how My warning was. And certainly did those before them deny, and how [terrible] was My reproach! Do they not see the birds above them with wings outspread and [sometimes] folded? None holds them [aloft] except the Most Merciful. Indeed He is, of all things, Seeing. }
