Tafsir
Verse range: 7:13
{فَاهْبِطْ مِنْهَا} Descend from it—from the heaven, which is the abode of the obedient and humble among the angels—to the earth, which is the dwelling place of the disobedient and arrogant among the two species (jinn and mankind).
{فَمَا يَكُونُ لَكَ} It is not fitting for you, nor is it appropriate for you.
{أَنْ تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيهَا} To act with arrogance therein and disobey.
{فَاخْرُجْ إِنَّكَ مِنَ الصَّاغِرِينَ} So depart; you are among the humiliated—those who are held in contempt and disgrace by Allah and His allies due to your arrogance. Just as you say to a man, "Rise in humiliation," when you intend to insult him. Its opposite is: "Rise in righteousness." This is because when he manifested arrogance, he was clothed in humiliation.
It is narrated from Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "Whoever humbles himself for the sake of Allah, Allah will elevate his wisdom and say: 'Rise, may Allah raise you.' And whoever acts with arrogance and exceeds his bounds, Allah will cast him down to the earth."
{قَالَ أَنْظِرْنِي إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ * قَالَ إِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنْظَرِينَ}
