Tafsir
Verse range: 7:144
{I have chosen you over the people} I have selected you over the people of your time and preferred you above them {with My messages}, which are the books of the Torah, {and with My speech}, and by My speaking directly to you.
{So take what I have given you} Take what I have bestowed upon you of the honor of prophethood and wisdom, {and be among the grateful} for this blessing, for it is among the greatest of blessings.
It is said: Moses fell unconscious on the Day of ʿArafah, and he was given the Torah on the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Naḥr).
If you ask: How can it be said, "I have chosen you over the people," when Aaron was also chosen as a prophet like him? I reply: Indeed, but he was a follower to him, a support, and a minister. The "Interlocutor" (al-Kalīm) is Moses, peace be upon him, and he is the primary bearer of the message.
{I will turn away from My signs those who are arrogant upon the earth without right; and if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. And if they see the way of consciousness, they will not adopt it as a way; but if they see the way of error, they will adopt it as a way. That is because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them.}
{And those who denied Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter - their deeds have become worthless. Are they recompensed except for what they used to do?}
