Verse range: 7:200
{And if an incitement from Satan should incite you} Meaning: If he should prick you with a prick from him, by compelling you through his whispering to act contrary to what you have been commanded, {then seek refuge in Allah} and do not obey him.
Nazgh (incitement) and nasgh mean pricking and goading, as if he goads people when he incites them to commit sins. The nazgh is attributed to the nāzigh (the inciter), just as one says "his grandfather was serious" (jadda jadduhu).
It is narrated that when this was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "How, O Lord, while there is anger?" So, {And if an incitement from Satan should incite you} was revealed. It is permissible that the "incitement of Satan" refers to the onset of anger, as in the saying of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): "I have a devil that overcomes me."
{Indeed, those who fear Allah—when an impulse from Satan touches them, they remember [Him] and at once they have insight. But their brothers—the devils—increase them in error; then they do not stop.}
