Tafsir
Verse range: 7:24
{اهبطوا} The address is directed to Adam, Eve, and Iblis.
{بعضكم لبعض عدو} This is in the position of a circumstantial qualifier (ḥāl), meaning: "You are enemies to one another," as Iblis bears enmity toward them, and they bear enmity toward him.
{مستقر} Meaning: a place of settling, or a location for stability.
{ومتاع إلى حين} Meaning: enjoyment of life until the expiration of your appointed terms.
A narration from Thābit al-Bunānī: When Adam was sent down and his death approached, the angels surrounded him. Eve began to circle around them, so he said to her: "Leave the angels of my Lord alone, for what has befallen me is only because of you."
When he passed away, the angels washed him with water and lotus leaves in an odd number, embalmed him, shrouded him in an odd number of garments, dug his grave, made a laḥd (niche) for him, and buried him in Sarandib in the land of India. They then said to his children: "This is your tradition after him."
{يَا بَنِي آدَمَ قَدْ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ لِبَاسًا يُوَارِي سَوْآتِكُمْ وَرِيشًا ۖ وَلِبَاسُ التَّقْوَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ}
